It all started with a vision. The home was originally built in the 1700s and had seen a lot of natural wear and tear with minimal to no upkeep. To an everyday passerby, the house held no potential and would sit and rot, becoming just another eyesore to the people of Parsonsfield. Everyone that is, except for Dana. Having personal ties, Dana took a leap of faith and purchased the single-family home with the intent on fixing it up and selling it to another family in need. At the time of purchase, both he and Josh worked full time at other companies and decided the house would be their weekend project. From the first day of cleaning out the house Josh was hooked, and a dream started to formulate.

In the fall of 2019, they were able to start working. They cleaned and gutted out all the contents inside the house, re-installed new windows, re-sided and painted the outside and had begun working on fixing up the inside by the summer of 2020. The more visible work that was completed, the more attention they drew to the house, and people began to take notice. It became common for people to stop by and chit chat or compliment the work they had accomplished.

As any local will tell you, word of mouth travels fast and that was exactly the case for the two of them. One weekend they had a gentleman stop and ask if they would look at his family summer home down the road and provide a quote, an offer they couldn’t refuse. After taking a look around they decided to take on that project as well.

​

They would also take on other side projects, sometimes working on some after ‘normal’ working hours, but the majority of their time being put in on the weekends. The more Josh worked on these projects, the more he realized how much he enjoyed carpentry. He relished in the fact of seeing the vision come to life and being able to say “I did that,” and thus Thyngs to Do was born.
